Rutledge Ranch Gladysdale, Victoria 2012
As an Australian expression of a ranch style, the house explores notions of a contemporary country homestead. Gradually revealed along a gravel tree lined driveway the long slung horizontal stone clad form is carefully sited amongst native and exotic trees and existing sheds and outbuildings. An expressive double butterfly roof is only fully revealed internally whilst extended wide eaves provide protection over the solid local stone and masonry base embedded into the natural landscape.
This home for an extended family captures the essence of the location and program resolution to arrive at a new version of habitation in this Yarra Valley modest working farm.
