Surf Side Beach Houses

200 (A,B &C) The Esplanade, Surf Beach, Phillip Island | 2009

The site is on the Esplanade at Surf Beach, Philip Island. There are views to the east towards Forest Caves, to the south towards the coastal dune system and to the north over the estate to Swan Bay in the distance. Across the Esplanade is the coastal reserve, an important fauna and flora habitat. The modest three dwellings are well suited to the corner block with its dual access, large open areas and coastal frontage. The form of the buildings are derived from an attempt to soften the transition from landscape to building.  Otherwise the form is somewhat reminiscent of the skillion roof 60’s beach houses and affords good north living area orientation.
