A defunct Beer factory site located in central Osaka between a freeway and railway line became the site for a complete city block redevelopment. The aim was to integrate the development into the existing urban fabric surrounds whilst proposing a new solution to the inner city. The scheme was in a way a microcosm of the city with multiple uses ranging from open area food market, shopping, hotel, residential towers, cherry tree park and major department store. A rooftop green area become a skyline jogging track while the hectic activity of the food and retail market hums below.
Green building ideas are pursued, along with elegant snaking forms and assimilated train images to form an interlocking series of building type and program that still maintains a sense of space and place.
